Come one come all young and old; the post apocalyptic circus is in town!
"Mischief in the Machine" is musical experience of sight and sound a circus
universe or a circu-a-verse, as Abraham Lincoln once called it.
In this spectacle the earth is barren and silent but the spirit of creation
is seeping in through the cracks! We are brought into this world by the
light of the camp fire and the HUMANWINE song Epoch.
Holly Brewer and M@ McNiss (as the vagabonds) accompanied by Emperor
Norton's stationary Marching Band set the mood of building new families out
of rumble, out of desperation, and out of fear set down form a totalitarian
state of silence. Our heroine Z played by interactive performance artist
Ruckus Muckus finds herself awakening self expression and disrupting the
machine.
From these exploits she meets many strange and fantastic oddities. We see Z
interrupt the glum cycle of the Drudges and awaken their individuality. Armed with her freshly open eyed friends, the troupe make their way across the treacherous land bringing back sound, movement and color to the silent expanse.
Along the way we meet the robot-corpse like SS Called the Jackals played by Eliza Blaze, BJ Erdmann and Aaron Grossman. Eliza Blaze delivers astunningly dark and beautiful spinning fan performance whilst Bj and Aaronbring their characters to life with creepy clockwork movement/dance and a fantastic aerial strap performance.
The Jackals are the evil henchmen of The Autocrat played by Mallory Hanora.
The Autocrat is the overlord of the silent wasteland, a bland content psychopath
striving for total control and total conformity. His dream is a silent world free of self expression.
The opposites of the evil politician and the Jackals are the Sparks who
are good old fashion post apocalyptic circus folk. With many talents such as
Juggling, aerial lyra, clowning, super sexy partner acrobatics, aerial
tissu, lovely lady lion contortion, whip cracking, hooping and German wheel.
With so many talented performers performing feats of grace and skill you
easily get lost in a storm of circus insanity! Once you think it couldn't
possibly get any more creatively decadent, we are treated to a song by our
female vagabond Holly Brewer in the midst of this circus!
Holly's singing can and should be considered a circus feat in itself;
beautiful and powerful it mirrors the surrounding circus move for move, a
whirlwind of song, feather, flesh and fabric encompass the stage and
befuddle your mind. Throughout the night ENSMB swings and swaggers, beeps
and bops painting a perfect backdrop for this circus beast dance freak-out.
This circu-a-verse was produced by the talented and hard working Bonnie
Denis and directed by Johnny Blazes. Chuck Lechien, Jr. was the
Impresario/Band leader/ musical director/ and main composer not to mention
ENSMB saxophone wielding punk.
Mischief in the Machine is a real circus kid masterpiece and we can only
hope that ENSMB will bring us back to the Mischief universe. Congrats to all
involved you all deserve 10 pleasurable spankings and 2 conjoined twin
thumbs up!
