Perhaps it's easiest to address this collection of songs by cellist Serena Tideman by stating what it is not.
This is not rock music, this is not the cello replacing guitar and/or bass for songs that will make you want to throw the goat-hand in the air.
This is not over-produced nor is it accented or addended with a myriad of other instruments.
What "Kalakala" is a moving and impressionistic series of pieces by a talented and skilled musician. What you get is beautiful songs played on cello, just cello. But that's all you really need. That's all *I* really need.
"Kalakala" proves that the cello is the one instrument that I can listen too all by itself and still be satisfied with the experience.
